I experienced this in a recent run/training session. I was previously doing hill intervals to do this particular run. This time I just power hiked up the hill. When I got to the top I had actually done it in the same time I would have doing walk run, walk run! And during the power hike I just kept on going and felt amazing. You don't have to kill yourself.
